The Cadillac ranch is a disappointing venue for me, It's impossible to hear many of the speakers ( I feel sorry for those that are stuck in the open area of the upstairs). It's cool that it's casual, but I did not have people throwing beer bottles by me to land and crash in a large smelly bar trash can when the tech conf was at the GEC, or at vandy.
$20 for parking, and not enough space in some of the rooms made this a lousy show. Great content, if it could be absorbed in an environment that is more conducive to learning, and sharing. I missed a great talk in the "poker room" because there was not enough space - was there about 40 chairs in there? Six of them unusable because they were pushed up against the laptop used for the presentation, and a couple chairs unusable, as they became the default bugger for several people's laptop bags, purses, and backpacks.
I'd also love to see the show start and run later. 9am on a Sat may be the only way to fit into the bar's schedule, but it does not fit my schedule well.
Kudos to the speakers for sharing, thumbs down for those running the show to continue to choose a space that makes it a waste of time.

Maybe next time the audio can be streamed and I can skip the whole bar experience and hear the show from home or the office. Being there in person, I couldn't hear but about every 5th word. I was not the only one to leave in the first few minutes of the distraction laden speakers upstairs.
